In theory, Borderlands 3's DRM "shouldn’t impede" players

When Borderlands 3 came out on September 13, it will be a six-month Epic Games store, packaged with Denuvo's anti-piracy software, which is a very angry blow to only one or two PC gamers. . At least on the DRM issue, the developer Gearbox expressed sympathy for the player's concerns.

"Many people criticize DRM - it's effective to some extent," said Chris Brock, producer who spoke to us at Gamescom this week.

The argument against anti-piracy DRM practices like Denuvo is that they punish those who legally buy the game, rather than downloading the cracked version by requiring additional system resources on any basis of the game's needs. In any case, this theoretically leads to performance degradation. In the past few years, Denuvo's tamper-proof software has often been cracked, and once this happens, the cracked version of the game executable will quickly enter the torrent website.

This allows players who pay for the game to sit on a version, theoretically running worse again or need more versions from their system than the ones that those who download it for free.

Brock said performance issues are a serious issue for Gearbox.

"What we have to do is make sure that this [DRM] should not interfere with a person," he said. "We don't want people who pirate games to be easier than people who legally buy games. This is our touchstone, it won't hinder it."

What remains to be seen is how Denuvo will affect the performance of Borderlands 3. But one thing we know is that there is no trophy box in the land of no land. It will have spoils, maybe a box, but not a booty box.
