Overwatch's Summer Games Coming Early Than Usual, Hero 31 Is Slightly Delayed

Time: 2019-07-12

Stylosa, Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan said "It’s going to be a very different summer. I know what our players like to do is to look back at the calendar and saying this is what always happens and this is when I expect things; there’s going to be some mix-up this summer when things land… those dates are going to be different."
Overwatch's Summer Games Coming Early Than Usual, Hero 31 Is Slightly Delayed
More than a month has passed since that statement was made, but in the last two days we have received an update on the meaning of his words.

On July 11, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan released a video update on the July 2019 schedule and events. While the video clip is short, Jeff assures fans that more will be coming soon. In a video, Kaplan begins with a "caution" to Overwatch players that the Blizzard development team will be doing things "differently" this summer. More updates are expected soon, but the differences seem to be mostly about the 2019 Summer Games and when the next hero will arrive.

In a developer update in July, Kaplan said Summer Games are coming earlier than ever, but didn't provide a specific date. Each week of the summer Games, he says, there will be smaller events similar to the hero challenge, where players get skins, not just the traditional mode of buying all new events at the start of the games. In addition, smaller adjustments will be added. For example, if an athlete completes an additional weekly challenge during the Summer Games, such as the Baptiste Reunion challenge, it will take place within three weeks of the scheduled event. By winning a certain number of matches (and possibly others), players will be able to unlock a different Epic skin each week.

As for Hero 31, Kaplan said that "he is going to be awesome" -- and Kaplan specifically said "he"(Hero 31 will be male) — but that the developer needs a little more time to make him "even more awesome." It also means his release date has been pushed back a bit, but will be coming soon.

Other things in the pipeline include:

  • The further development of subtitle function will have a good effect on people with hearing impairment.
  • Improvements to Overwatch’s cheat detection system. -that new cheat detection methods will shut down matches in which foul play is detected, but that no players on either side of the match will have their skill rating (SR) affected by suspected cheaters.
With reassurance that more will be coming soon, keep an eye out for more from Jeff and the Overwatch team. For all the news and updates, stay tuned here, at cdkeysmall.com.
